A change of ownership since my last review, and the carpets and curtains are now quite normal. It can get very busy with food orders, and I was lucky enough to miss what must have felt like a tsunami. I managed to get a swift half ordered before anyone else could get in with another massive food order, and took it to a table on a raised section, a sort of mini-snug. The beer, Patterdale Terrier, is brewed by Eden Brewery. They also the almost ubiquitous Wainwright and a hand-written notice promoting Theakstons Peculier Pale, though I didn't see it on a pump. Staff were working hard but still had time to be pleasant, which is nice. Definitely gone up a notch since my last visit, but it's still more of a place for food than for beer.

There are two hand pumps but on my recent visit only one in use, serving Tirril's house bitter, here rebadged as White Lion Ale, a bland pale bitter in the modern style. The pub is quite pleasant, with upholstered benches and stools dotted about in various alcoves and nooks, though the tartan curtains would take a bit of getting used to. There was a lingering smell of cooking fat which didn't add anything to the taste of the beer. The White Lion is a narrow building on one side of the main road through to Kirkstone Pass, and there are benches available on a small patch of land on the other side of the road, for those brave enough to cross it.
