This is my first visit since I was subjected to the third-world state of the lavatories in January 2011. This is a large Victorian Greene King corner pub, originally known as The Belgrave situated on the world famous Abbey Road. To the outside there's substantial covered patio seating, the corner entrance leads into a spacious pub which presumably has been opened out somewhat over the years. Close to the entrance there are some metal columns. The colour scheme is largely darkish smokey blue to the walls and ceiling with some white/cream paint in the minority. There's no bar back as such, just bare brick - in fact there's no remaining décor in here that I could see. Wall surrounds to the windows are wood panelled, once painted but are partially stripped. Furniture is traditional, mixed and eclectic. The floor is rough bare boarded and lighting is minimal. There are some rather ugly modern white ceiling fans which would look better in an office and are too powerful to be comfortable - it's like drinking in a gale force wind.

There's an open kitchen (which due to the heat and noise, I don't like) and a large dining area to the rear. Music played which was really a bit too loud. With the dim lighting and dark paint, it was overall a bit gloomy in here. The crowd as such (the place was virtually empty at 8.00 pm) is generally 20-50 somethings and generally well-heeled. The tone was let down a fair bit by the potty-mouthed chavs propping up the bar.

Unsurprisingly there's a large choice of premium lagers on offer along with GK IPA, Milk Street Brewery's Funky Monkey and Triple FFF Brewery's Moondance which was new to me and a very good pint and at £3.90, was good value for the area; a fourth pump had a clip, reversed; staff were efficient and friendly.

This isn't a bad pub, actually it's quite nice though there's not much left around here. With brighter lighting, less wind power, a quieter sound system and minus the riff-raff, it would be a lot better.

The lavatories were not sampled on this visit.

The Salt House is situated in a leafy upmarket area with no other pubs nearby.
Once inside there was a single oblong shaped room which ran to the rear of the pub,the bar was to the front right, the seating was normal tables and chairs and one long seat with a chunky wood table.
There was a dining area down a few steps to the rear,an open kitchen was in use to the rear right.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of A Head in the Hat Tommy which was a nice drink, the other beers were Trumans Lazarus and Abbey Ale.
There was some decent background music playing,i was happy enough having a drink in this pub.
