An Ember Inns establishment with a rather plush hotel-like interior. Effectively a large L-shaped space but dividable with screens, carpeted throughout with seating at sofas, armchairs, bucket seats etc all at polished tables. Various fireplaces with meticulously graded stacked logs despite seemingly being gas fires, newspapers in a rack, a few token books on a shelf plus various uninteresting bits of stuff in frames. There is no real sense of warmth or belonging if you get my drift, not pub-like at all. A few seats to the frontage have views of the park over the road if you can ignore the traffic.
There are nine handpumps but several were on line cleaning duty according to the signs, beers on were Orkney Dark Island (£3.60), Old Speckled Hen, Black Sheep "Ember Ale", Brakspears Bitter plus Brain's Rev James. I suspect the Ember Ale is a rebadge.
Some people will really like a clean, modern and plush interior like this with smart uniformed regimented staff, myself I like a bit of tradition, rawness and a homely feel. Each to their own.

Ember Inn on north side of Woking - might technically be in Horsell but is only just outside the town centre. Appears to have improved dramatically since the earlier reviews, with (at time of visit at least) friendly bar staff with enthusiasm for the ever-changing range of real ales, which certainl;y seemed in good order (Cask Marque listed). Food not sampled, but looked good enough. Not the most exciting exterior - the interior has a comfortable, modern feel with plenty of space.

Suzy D left this review about The Wheatsheaf Hotel

My mother and myself attended a 14-strong, pre-booked Golden Wedding Anniversary party at the hotel this evening, and the treatment we and our hosts received from this hotel was appalling! White wine served unchilled on this hot day is inexcusable, we had to ask four times for water and then a jug was brought to the table without glasses, only 13 main course meal orders were actually put through to the kitchen so one guest had a 20-minute wait for his meal, and over an hour after we had finished the extremely small portion main courses no-one had been near us to clear the tables or check whether everything was ok, which it wasn't. Desserts began to arrive, 20 minutes later we were still waiting for cutlery to eat them with. The staff didn't seem to know or care what they were doing, no-one appeared to be in charge, and it was only for the sake of our hosts who were clearly very upset and embarrassed about the dreadful service that we didn't get up and walk out. To cap it all off, before we had finished dessert the lights were turned down so we couldn't see one another, and the music was turned up so we couldn't hear one another. You only have one Golden Wedding anniversary, our hosts' evening was completely ruined by the couldn't-care-less attitude of this hotel. I will NEVER set foot in this estabishment again.
