A revisit finds the pub still comfortably furnished, although the tartan carpet is a bit of an eyesore and some of the interesting features have disappeared. There seem to be additional outdoor garden and decking areas both front and rear. The beer list is a little better however, with Young's Original, London Pride, Harvey's Best and Bath Gem on handpump. it is rumoured that Big Smoke brewery may be taking over the pub in the future.

Comfortable, friendly and well-used two bar local - beer always in good form. Most notable for having its own Thai chef, so excellent food.

A post-war pub, slightly off the beaten track between Hersham and Walton, there are two main rooms inside around an island bar which nowadays serves from one side only. Fireplaces in each side with stacked logs, carpeted throughout, mostly regular issue seating apart from a couple of high tables near the main entrance door. There is a false beamed ceiling, framed pictures of ships-the pub name comes from the Napoleonic Wars-, one side has a piano, there are a few jugs and pots on a high shelf plus interest is provided either by the cockatoo or whatever it is in one room and a tank of fish in the other. Leaded windows and a couple of bays let in the light nicely. Further décor is Thai style, representing the pub's other guise as a decent quality Thai food joint, I had my lunch here, stir fried beef with chilli and basil with sticky rice, top notch at just £7.95. A standard pub menu is also available again at decent prices.
This is a Young's pub with four handpumps, doubled up with Bitter and Special.
A nice walled garden around the back plus a few picnic tables at the front facing the car park give further options.
On face value this should be a bog standard unremarkable pub but I found it to be a warm, friendly place with good service and I also thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. The beer if not exceptional in range was first rate too, I would recommend and would certainly visit and eat again. Stick an interesting or local guest ale on such as from Surrey Hills or Tillingbourne and a dizzy 8 from Mm might have occurred.
