From the beer selection available yesterday, this would appear to be part of the Fullers stable now however it is not branded as such externally. Chiswick, Pride, Red Fox and HSB were on, plus presumably a guest in the shape of Butcombe Bitter (£3.70).
The front area has the bar and drinking section, nooks and crannies, a small booth, lots of dark wooden beams and posts, roughcast white walls, exposed panels of brickwork, all giving the feel of great age however I believe the pub is probably late Victorian having been built to serve the nearby railway. Décor includes masses of horse related paraphernalia with horse brasses, bridles, stirrups and horseshoes all around on the walls and ceiling. High shelves contain pots, pans and kettles. The room is carpeted and has regular seating. At the far end is a separate room, The Study, which can be hired.
Beyond the bar, to the rear, there is a huge conservatory which functions as a formal dining room. Food looks upmarket with prices to match but business was brisk. Judging from the Range Rover count outside, money is probably of not much importance to many of the customers here. Beyond the conservatory is a garden.
The pub has a golf society, there is a case of trophies in the bar and an old wooden club in a case above the bar.
Despite the pub's affluent clientele and foody aspirations, I didn't mind it in here despite early misgivings having seen the sign in the window advising that the dress code is "smart casual". Thankfully my walking shoes and rucksack passed the test!

It's upped its game a bit since I wrote the notes below three years ago. The beer range is better and in good condition - excellent Hook Norton last night. Service remains unhurried and prices stratospheric; and it's yet another pub where a request for a packet of peanuts gets you about half a pound of cheap nuts from a bulk cash-and-carry packet and about three quid on the bill, and about four times as much as you wanted or can possibly eat. Grumbles aside, it's a worth a visit.

The Kingswood Arms is a large Brewer's Baronial affair, orginally built as the Station Hotel some time after he railway came up the valley.
Inside it's quite interesting, lots of rooms and nooks and crannies and fake beams and open fires; they've somehow managed to resit the temptation to knock it all through. The garden is nice too. It was an Evening Standard pub of the year about 25 years ago, the plaque is still on the door, and little has changed since then - not that it would win today since pubs like this are hardly fashionable in London media circles.
The being Kingswood the locals are filthy rich, it's the sort of area retired footballers and bank robbers - sorry, bankers - fetch up and is very popular with the golfing fraternity. And that is reflected in the eyewateringly expensive prices. Only come here if you've got a lot of money.
If you have got a lot of money you'll find the usual suspects in the beer range, Pride, Adnams, and so on, and find the quality variable.
You could do a lot worse round here, but there's a couple of alternatives which are far better.

A large, well maintained old pub with interesting nooks and crannies, and a variety of agricultural implements hanging from the ceiling. I found it very welcoming, the main bar feeling like a good drinking area whilst 'the conservatory' room to the left was set up for dining. Both seemed populated with a range of customers. There is also a room at the front known as 'the study' which is bookable for functions.
The were two banks of 5 ale pumps behind the bar, servicing Harvey's Sussex (a well looked after pint at £3.40), Pride, Directors, Young's Bitter and Adnams Broadside as of Sunday. I didn't look at the food menu, though the admittedly tasty-sounding 'light bites' advertised at the bar at £8.95 suggested to me it wouldn't be cheap. A poster in the gents also advertised that you can book a private barbecue.
A worthwhile pub to visit and I daresay I'll be here again when in the area.
