They had four ales on when I arrived, with five on by the time I left at the end of the evening. There was nothing very exciting; they included their house ale called KT20 (the pub's postcode) which is rebadged Morland (Greene King) Bitter, plus other usual suspects, with the best bet in my opinion being the Hogsback Hogswallop. We were there for a meal with a large group of friends, and it seems that just about everybody else in there on Saturday was eating as well. As we entered the pub we were met by a friendly lady who enquired whether we had booked a table. It was that sort of place. But the food was fairly good. I had the homemade steak/ale/mushroom pie plus veg (I swapped the new potatoes for chips obviously) for £12.95. Not cheap, but the quality was high. Fortunately the extra gravy that had been poured over the pie didn't detract from the meal too much.

The interior is as described by the previous reviewer. It's supposed to look like an archetypal country pub, with beams and the like, and it does that job. I have only the experience of my one Saturday evening visit to draw upon, but on the basis of that visit it looks like somewhere you would come for a meal rather than just a drink.

Externally an attractive, solid mid-Victorian building which looks inviting enough to call for further investigation. Sadly you will be disappointed, once inside you could be anywhere an early 2000s pub design consultant has been, and any pubby atmosphere has long been blown away. Now mostly given over to dining, there are just a couple of spaces left for drinkers, but one of those, about 15 feet square, is occupied by two massive sofas meaning that just one person sat down has effectively taken over the entire space. And that's the bit by the fire too.

Despite what their website says, the beer is run of the mill: Young's, Fuller's, GK. I guess it does what it sets out to do perfectly adequately, which is to feed the well-heeled residents of the area. The other two pubs along this stretch fulfil exactly the same need, and are just about indistinguishable. This one gets the edge because it's not a Vintage Inn and it hasn't got a moronic name. If you are out walking round here, and there's some fine walking to be had, go for this one. If you're on wheels and want a proper pub Walton offers better (and indeed one must-visit) choice.
