Noticing it has recently obtained Cask Marque certification, I dropped by to investigate to find it has moved a bit more upmarket and lost the pub games, but acquired some better beers. I don't know why people think painting the outside of a pub black is a good idea but there you go. The interior also follows the current trend, with bare floorboards and drab-painted part-boarded walls, but this is offset by a fair amount of dark woodwork which gives a slight drawing room feel. Still one large L-shaped room. but there are a couple of intriguing little private side rooms as well. Furnishing is a mixture of benches and conventional tables. A back door leads to a garden but was closed in the evening so not inspected. Beerwise, the pumps offered Long Man Best Bitter, Otter Best Bitter and the perennial Doom Bar, with quality seeming to be fine. Also Old Rosie from the box for cider drinkers and the usual selection of keg fonts. Food not sampled, but noted it also opens for Saturday breakfast. Overall, quite pleasant and worth a visit, although parking is not great in the vicinity.

Only Courage Best was on when I visited on Friday afternoon, with a London Pride clip reversed. There was no sign of any food or menus. This looks a distinctly average pub. The pool table is still on the left as you enter, with mainly normal tables and chairs in the drinking area wrapped around the L-shaped bar counter. The half-height matchboard panelling on the walls has been painted that ubiquitous grey-green colour, with the front of the bar counter painted a contrasting crimson.
This pub does the job, and although I’m glad it’s here as it’s the only pub in the immediate area, it’s not really somewhere to which I would look forward to visiting again.

A single fairly large L-shaped room, there is a pool table to one side at the front and a dartboard towards the rear, where several darts trophies are displayed above a fireplace. The pub is carpeted and the seating is of the traditional type with no sofas or high tables. Light coloured walls with the lower sections dark green, not much in the way of decor but there are a few Victorian style caricatures near the pool table. Two TVs, a couple of fruit machines. Further outdoor seating to the rear with the usual picnic benches plus a couple of tables at the front which face the busy Ewell Rd. There is a piano in one corner, no idea if it sees any use.
A few forthcoming events listed on the board, a Halloween disco, a bonfire BBQ plus someones birthday bash.
Three handpumps on the bar but just the one in use, serving Courage Best.
A pretty routine basic, no frills pub really, certainly nothing out of the ordinary but no reason to criticise either.
