Fairly plain yet attractive detached pub with a short single-storey extension to the frontage, benefiting from being set back from the old Hastings Road a bit which provides space for a little grassed beer garden. Light, unfussy, alehouse-style interior with a pool table to one side and enough floorspace for live music, etc. Also has another compact seating area down a few steps in one corner on the way through to the substantial rear beer garden. Barrel & Stone pizza menu. Although a Greene King pub, it is now run by the same team as the Bedford in Tunbridge Wells, so it is no surprise to find three Tonbridge Brewery beers - Capel Pale, Golden Rule and Old Chestnut (£3.50) - plus Long Blonde from Long Man in addition to IPA and Old Speckled Hen available from six of eight handpumps.
