R.I.P. The Hanging Gate Inn. 1621-2017.
Very sad to lose this "Regionally Important Heritage Inn". Built into the steep hillside above Macclesfield it had three 'ground floors' on different levels with excellent views into the valley below. I increase my score to 10 to appreciate what has been lost!

The Hanging Gate is an isolated moorland inn but only a four mile "climb" to the south of Macclesfield.
The entrance and bar is at road level, but two further rooms are down staircases as the land drops steeply into the valley below. Excellent views are to be had from the patio and the bottom room. This old drovers inn became a Hydes tied house a few years ago, selling their Real Ales on the bar. Very good but expensive meals are served.
