Clearly an old pub ,and you step down from street level to a low ceiling bar room but the interior has been refurbed aggressively which must have cost a packet but has stripped out a lot of character. The furniture is solid ,well made but hasn't weathered in,while the Farrow & Ball colour scheme is classy but cold. There is a raised brick fireplace but the wood burner is not connected ,while beyond the bar to the left is a wing with more dark furniture leading to a function room.Outside the patio is large but dull. There is a vague American theme and the muzak was dull US ballards, and despite food being advertised on signage ,I could see no menus or any other evidence of food at 5pm on a Thursday.
At the bar there are 3 handpumps ,new looking but unclipped despite ales being advertised and a Cask Marque sign. The small keg selection was equally dull and £2 for a swift half of Fosters didn't lighten my mood.
The pub was pretty deserted and I fear for the future .It seems a lot of money has been spent without creating either a gastro pub,or a beer mecca .Can't see any reason to revisit.

Good town pub with a warm welcome, nice atmosphere and well kept beers. Not the perfect pub as the previous reviewer (praising her own pub with her sole review?) that's just bloody silly as the perfect pub simply does not exist outside my over-fertile imagination, however it is a realistic 'above average'.

• The Sun is a quaint public house offering excellent social and corporate facilities to customers and businesses throughout the local area.
• The pub is located on Sun Street in the historic town of Waltham Abbey where there is no shortage of places to dine and socialise.
• Mark & Kerry King acquired the pub in August 2006 and have since gained a high reputation for offering a warm, friendly and inviting environment to eat and drink.
• The Sun also offers a well equipped function room that has its own private bar which is available to hire for private parties as well as corporate/business lunches, meeting or training programs.
• Free WIFI is available throughout the premises.
• The Sun offers a fantastic lunchtime home cooked menu and is renowned for its traditional Sunday roast dinners, and has also received a finest cask award for its excellent variety and quality of real ales.
• Every weekend the Sun provides entertainment from live bands to karaoke and DJ’s.
• For forthcoming events you can check out our web site; www.thesunwalthamabbey.co.uk. Alternatively you can check us out on face book.
• We have an expanding network of customers located in and around Waltham Abbey.
• We provide everything from senior citizen’s special meal deals, business seminars, lively cocktail evenings, to DJ’s, there really is something for everybody here.
• Our beautiful relaxing garden (which has won Waltham Abbey flowers in bloom) is extremely popular throughout the summer months for alfresco dining and equally as popular during the winter months because of our large sheltered and heated decking area.
• We also have a warm and comfortable designated smoking area for those of you that smoke.
• So come to the Sun and join in the fun!!!!!!!!!
