I can never make my mind up about this place. Sometimes I think the interior is hideous sometimes not so. It does, however, have a friendly feel so that'll do for me. 5 if I'm not feeling generous, 7.5 if I am.

Dating back to the 1660's The Royal Oak is an attractive looking pub from the outside with the smart interior a mixture of old and new, although was not that keen on the modern ceiling paneling. The pub has an island bar with 4 casks beers on plus the usual suspects. There were quite a few drinkers in on my visit but most of the customers were foodies.

A comfortable relaxing eating pub at the southern edge of the town centre. A place to escape from the central bustle though only a couple of minutes walk away. Real Ales served are Marstons bitter and pedigree plus a guest from the Marstons range.
Just outside the pub is the tall chimney from the defunct Border brewery.
