The pub itself is a little tired but is very welcoming, with extremely friendly and helpful staff. They had a dalliance with Italian food a little while ago, but have now gone back to good home made pub grub. I had one of the best Pub meals I have had in a long time last night, and my Wife was very impressed with hers.

I started with Black pudding bubble and squeak which was nicely presented and delicious. In fact I would have been happy with a larger portion as a main course. My Wife doesn't 'do' starters but prefers to leave space for a pudding.

My main course was a home made chicken and gammon pie served simply with chips and peas. The pie was obviously made in the kitchen and not bought in, and once again was really tasty. The chips were the best I have ever had in a pub. (I hate frozen chips).

My Wife had a mediterranean vegetable pasta in a tomato sauce and she said it was really nice. I tasted it and I have to say I would have been proud to put it on the table myself.

Pudding was a shared apple crumble pie with ice cream, and we were not disappointed.

The whole meal for two with two rounds of drinks came to less than £29 (early deal Tuesday to Thursday 5 to 7pm two main courses for the price of one).

We both recommend it and hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

I have given 9 out of 10 only because of the 'tired' look and feel to the pub, but if you like old rustic charm, and a pub the locals obviously enjoy this is the place for you. The food gets 10 out of 10.
