David Ross left this review about The Black Bull Inn

The smaller of Lesmahagow’s two pubs is located up a short alleyway leading off the main thoroughfare of the old village, known as Abbeygreen. The L-shaped bar is rather cramped and has been very busy on each of the handful of occasions I’ve been in it, two pubs being a less than adequate number for what is a substantial village (or is it a small town?). The outdoor drinking area, featuring a bus shelter, is more of a smoking haven than a beer garden and contributes virtually nothing in the way of additional seating or standing room. A stairway leads up to what might once have been a lounge, but which doesn’t currently appear to be in use. The bar itself is quite attractive, with wood panelling, banquette seating around the walls and chairs at tables. Signed Motherwell and Rangers football tops, and other memorabilia, are on display on the walls. There are two TVs, positioned right next to each other at the back, one showing World Cup football and the other horse racing, both with the volume turned down. I doubt if I could have heard either anyway due to the loud juke box and the equally loud locals. A pint of Fosters lager cost me £2.85 and Amstel and Heineken lagers, John Smith’s, McEwan’s 60 Shilling, Guinness and Strongbow cider are also on draught. The Black Bull is a pleasant and friendly local, but gets somewhat overcrowded at busy times.
