The traditional appearance of the exterior, with an English style swinging pub sign, is promising, but the inside is a disappointment. Having re-opened after being closed for a few years, the bar/lounge now has an overly modern look, with padded seating, bar stools and tiled flooring, although the real fire does, thankfully, survive. Other doors lead, apparently, to an upstairs Tea Room and a Diner, although the latter turned out to be a games room containing a pool table and dart board. The is also a Beer Garden although, being, midwinter, it was closed. The bar/lounge has one games machine and one TV and Open Mic nights take place there every Sunday. My pint of Belhaven Black Scottish Stout cost £3.15 and was served without a head, although it tasted OK. Guinness, Belhaven Best, Strongbow cider and Tennent’s, Carling and Fosters lagers are also on draught. “Speciality coffees” are on sale at prices only slightly lower than the beer. Although it’s nothing special, this is one of the pricier pubs in town, which might be why there were only three other customers, despite the fact that it was a Friday night.

I can't rate this as yet because I haven't been in it yet, due to the fact that it has been closed for years. However, there is now a banner above the windows saying "Re-opening Soon." I look forward to this, as it certainly looks promising from the outside.
