Graham Coombs left this review about The Famous Barrel

Cosy backstreet pub with much old wood and stone, brass ornaments and the like. One room with a lounge area at one end and a pool table at the other. Garden and small car park outside, with the 'famous' half barrel mounted on the door . Draught ales on offer at time of visit were Lushingtons and Dartmoor Jail Ale, with a Doom Bar clip reversed. The beer was in good condition and the place seemed popular with the locals.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Famous Barrel

Somewhat hidden away in the side streets of the lower part of the town, this is a fine old pub of the old school. Partially opened-out at some stage to leave a 'L'-shaped bar with a busy pool table in one arm and a small lounge-like area in part of the other. Very traditional furniture and decor, but best known for its barrel-like door. Just two of three handpumps in operation, offering Doom Bar and Dartmoor Jail Ale (£1.80, half).

Fine old stone building close to the riverside, that is warm and friendly with a slate flagged floor and large open fireplace and wood burning stove.A unique feature of this pub is the entrance door which is made up of a section of a brewer's large barrel.Good pub this well worth a visit.
