A prominent pub in a prime spot overlooking Padstow’s attractive harbour, it is a substantial looking building but doesn’t have quite the cosy charm of some of it’s nearby compatriots, being slightly utilitarian and barn like inside.

It’s essentially all one open plan space inside, although divided in to a few different areas. A raised section to the left is partitioned off with some balustrade and there is a carpeted dining area to the rear. Otherwise the flooring is dark boards, with whitewashed stonework on the walls, although there are a few beams on the ceiling. A large stone fire-place was off to the left and there was a plasma screen showing the golf, but other than that there was little of any note.

We didn’t eat on this occasion, but the menu looked to consist of an extensive selection of “pub grub” dishes with options such as Cod & Chips, Hunter’s Chicken, Thai Red Curry, Burger, Scampi & Chips, etc., and these were mostly priced around the £10 mark.

Beers on tap were predominantly from St. Austell with their Tribute, HSD, Proper Job and Trelawny although there was also Nobody’s Ale. Ciders were Strongbow, Strongbow Dark Fruit and Cornish Rattler of both the Original and Pear varieties.

Called in as we had 4 hours in Padstow and wanted a meal and a drink. St Austell house and we enjoyed their HSD. The menu is varied and the prices are higher than some places, but we got a good plateful of fish and chips with a choice of mushy or garden peas. Entered through a light conservatory, so when we went into the pub it seemed dark. Large room with different eating and drinking areas.
