Roger Button left this review about Seafield Inn

This small small fishing harbour village boasts 2 pubs both of which are virtually next door to each other. The Seafield Inn is the more traditional pub (the other is more of a Hotel bar) and looks like it may once have been a couple of fisherman’s cottages before being knocked into a pub.

The main bar is quite narrow with traditional décor, barrel tables, frosted windows, old fashioned artwork and a pool and darts area at the slightly raised end section. A flat screen TV is housed on the wall at the other end and there is also a small basic TV behind the bar. A separate lounge bar is quite cosy with solid exposed walls and stone fireplace whilst adjoining it is a plainer area in what looks like a more recent addition to the building and maybe geared more towards functions and events although I didn’t notice anything specific being advertised. Overall it is quite pleasing on the eye but it does lack on the beers with just a standard range of keg beers (mainly Tennants) and no Real Ales which is not unusual for pubs in this area which is largely dominated by Whisky Distilleries.

I could say a lot about the customer base but having spent my first evening of a weeks’s stay in here and (along with the Mrs) being the only English people watching the England v USA World Cup match, it probably wasn’t a good night to judge the general ambience. I had half expected a background of abuse/banter from the locals especially given the copious Stars & Stripes on display both inside and out but there were times when it all became perhaps a bit too foul mouthed and abusive although in all fairness it was directed more to the team in white on the TV rather than anything personal. Given the efforts in making the pub as anti-English as possible, I think they were probably delighted that we had invaded their little World Cup party otherwise it would all have been a vain and wasted effort. Since one chap insisted on buying us drinks at the end of the evening I will give them the benefit of the doubt as to their approach to strangers although it did all feel very cliquey and I can imagine anyone not from the area could be quite uncomfortable here at certain times.

I only ventured in once more during the week when things were obviously a bit calmer but in hindsight, the pub didn’t really tick enough boxes to warrant going out of the way for.
