I spent Hogmany at the Grant Arms Hotel in Cullen and as an outsider myself i was aprehensive about the stay in the small village however my experience was somewhat different from Roger Button's. From the minute i walked into the hotel i was greeted by Callum, Andy and Dot who were very friendly and promptly showed me to my room.
The room was well decorated and very clean with a 20inch LCD on the wall, nice comfortable bed and an en suit bathroom also very tidy. There was a kettle and some coffee/tea ect and basicly everything i needed even if i was intending on staying in the room for any length of time.
The food was great and exceptional value for money as was the alchohol (the lines were most definatly cleaned regularly) Bar area was tidy and pool table was in great condition. We watched the hogmany celebrations on a large flat screen TV in the bar area wich was viewable no matter where you were seated in the pub. There is also a juke box there that plays practically any song you could ever want. I think the best thing for me was the atmosphere on the night there was no trouble and the locals were very welcoming and to an even more extent the pub owners Andy and Dot.
Thanks again guys ill be back up that way again in the summer see you then
Ron.

Without doubt the most unwelcoming pub I found during my recent travels. From being confronted on the doorstep by one abusive local who gave me a mouthful as soon as he sussed out that I was English to the foul mouthed regulars providing the full on Slaughtered Lamb experience inside as they switched on to my presence, this place was just downright intimidating for an outsider. I had hoped to catch the last half hour of the day’s World Cup game but decided to bolt down a single pint of Belhaven Best (that was as good as they do) in a seat as far away from anyone as possible and avoiding any eye contact before making a hasty exit.

The pub itself seemed neat and tidy enough, certainly not run down in any way and whilst I didn't really make any attempt to make any notes or go wandering around, I would just mention that there was a flat screen TV at one end and a pool table but other than that it was all quite unremarkable as far as decor and furnishings go. It was certainly not a place that left me with any positive memories and if you have to avoid any pub whilst in town, I would make it this one.
