Traditional pub that I have never passed before in all my years of being in Cardiff. Small seating area out front. Right hand side (a la the public bar) of the venue carpeted with servery on end of right-hand side. A banquette down the left-hand side with some sturdy tables and chairs on the other side. A couple of old timers sitting on stools at the bar watching the Olympics with commentary on a TV. A narrow ledge barely the width of a pint glass on the wall in front of the bar with some stools provided the opportunity to sit and stare at a few pictures of Cardiff of yesteryear. A large table also in the window looking out onto the quiet street outside. Left hand side has bar against common internal wall at the front of the venue. This must be the saloon bar as it was fancier and less basic with red velvet banquettes and the walls were more attractively adorned with photos of famous musical artists. There was a beer garden out the back.
Cask was solely Mosaic Pale Ale from Grey Trees. Keg choices were lagers (Amstel, Heineken Silver, Moretti, Stella & Carling), ciders (original Strongbow & Inch’s) with Neck Oil and Guinness. The same beers were available in both bars.
Very pleasant pub that would be an even better venue an extra cask ale or two. Nicely out of the way so as to speak in what is a quiet residential part of town.
