The Knowle is a large and decent looking pub that is set in the back streets.
Once inside the bar faces in an L shaped room, the floor is part tiled and bare boarded, there is bench seating and chairs and normal tables and chairs to the front right.
The left side runs to the rear where there are normal tables and chairs which were set for diners and food was being served.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Butcombe Bitter, which was a nice drink, the other real ales were Adnams Ghost Ship and Courage Directors.
Decent background music was playing.
There are good views of Bristol from the rear windows.
I thought this was a decent pub to have a drink in.

Recently re-opened after a reported £300,000 refurbishment, this prominent pub at the top of Talbot Hill is now run by the same team behind Zazu’s Kitchen and is now hopefully on a firmer footing after some years being run by a succession of different landlords and being closed almost as often as it was open.

It has now been opened up in to one single, L-shape room and has a fairly contemporary appearance similar to many other recent openings, with shades of Farrow & Ball paint on the wood panelling, cream and maroon paintwork on the walls and a mixture of reclaimed wood and tiling on the floor. Other decorations were fairly minimal with a few odds and ends such as stamps and an old map on the walls, and a free standing shelving unit housed a selection of pot plants. A fire-place at the rear was well stacked with logs, although whether this is just decorative rather than functional I’m not sure. From memory there are great views across Bristol from the rear of the pub, and I imagine the beer garden makes the most of this.

Food wise the menu looked to offer a decent enough selection of pub grub dishes such as fish & chips, burger, sausage & mash, etc., as well as a few slightly more unusual dishes. Prices were perhaps slightly above your run of the mill pub fayre, with most main courses coming in at somewhere around £10 - £12. We didn’t eat on this occasion, but I will no doubt return shortly to check it out.

Beers on tap were Adnams Ghost Ship, Deuchars IPA, Directors and Butcombe. Ciders meanwhile were Strongbow Cloudy Apple and Symonds Founders Reserve. Overall I thought they have done a good job here and hope it does well.

Refurbishment in progress as "Pub - Kitchen - Garden", whatever that means?
