When i discovered this pub i thought i had indeed found utopia. It is everything i would wish first. When i entered on the evening of Sunday 29th Sept my greeting was ignored by the four gentlemen sat at the bar who it transpired were all locals. Within the short time it took me to drink half my pint i had to endure several derogatory and racist comments about English people. Eventually i challenged the person making such comments and he put his behaviour down to 'banter'. I'm sorry but i travel the length and breadth of the UK and know the difference between banter and comments that are aimed to offend. Banter is when everybody present joins in and is comfortable with what transpires. I will never return and urge any English visitors to not bother

This is a very special place that is dear to me. I discovered the pub in the early 90s and have been regularly returning ever since. It has a unique character, and a splendid interior including log fires. The range of real ales is excellent, there usually being about ten ales on, which are drawn from barrels out the back. Welsh beers feature heavily, including ales from Tomos Watkin, Brains and the newer Rhymney Brewery, but you will also find a good selection of popular English ales. Food is not available, but they do sell free range eggs, which I regularly buy. If I had to name a favourite pub then this would be it.
