Sat at the junction of the A470/A487, the Cross Foxes has quite a modern feel. You access the pub up a staircase, which leads into an entrance hall with high tables. The bar is off to the right-hand side, where there is a lounge bar. The pub offers accommodation and did have the feel of a hotel.

Nevertheless, the all-female team of staff seemed quite friendly and there was a choice of 2 Conwy beers - Clogwyn Gold & Conwy Red. Photos on the walls showed how close some of the fighter jets can come. Taken from above the aircraft, you can see the pilots clearly!

The original stone-built pub stands beside the A487, but it's been extended behind and below, with steps leading down to a car park the size of a quarry adjoining the A470. I leaned my bike against a tree, having decided to pop in for a swift half. Struggling to break through the ambiance of a motorway service station is the original pub, seen in glimpses of stone walls and fireplaces. Service at the bar was friendly, but finding a congenial place to sit while I drink my very pleasant Great Orme Welsh Black was another matter. Eventually I found a rather deep chair to perch upon beside one of the fireplaces - disappointing to find the fire not lit. Come on, guys, it's winter! The pub's inclusion in the Good Beer Guide is well merited for the quality of the beer, but it's not really much of a pub.
