Slightly out of the immediate centre, this is a thatched roof Felinfoel pub and was the only place that deigned to open on a hot Monday afternoon. A trad 70s-style rustic refit inside; white artex walls, fake black wall wood struts, red leather banquette seating with a layout consisting of a cosy main bar on the right with a large lounge spur off left and a basic pool/darts room at the rear leading to a decent-sized garden. Jaegermeister bottles everywhere, the genial Saffie guvnor in somewhat of a fan (to the extent he made a water feature out of them in the garden). Two cask, Felinfoel’s Celtic Pride (NBSS 2.5) and Double Dragon (4). Friendly place and kudos to them for opening when everywhere else couldn’t be bothered. 6.5

An end terraced Grade II listed pub. It is claimed that the history of the property goes back to the 14th century, but if that is the case, the brick gabe end shows heavy restoration. Saying that, it is certainly a pub by 1868. It is a thatched building, in cream render, with an irregular layout of three upper and lower windows, as well as an off-centred door. I only saw the one long room, but i believe there was another that had a pool table and dart board. The main room is half bar and half lounge, with a stone fireplace at either end. The decor is white artex, with a white and beam ceiling. The bar has a black and red tiled floor, the lounge a red carpet with red seating. They do food, which i assume is mainly served in the loungey bit. There are some bits of brass about and a few mirrors. The TV had Vintage TV on - silently. The service was friendly and the place seemed populated by locals - a good, friendly mixed crowd. Beer; usual tap stuff with Felinfoel Double Dragon, Celtic Pride and a decent Stout on handpull. I really enjoyed my all too brief stop-off here; i would happily return.
