Old Boots left this review about The Fauconberg

A multi-roomed and low ceilinged, classic stone built pub in a pretty village famous as being the former home and parish of Reverend Laurence Sterne, author of the 18th Century humorous novel ‘The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy’.

Inside there are two bars, one at the front right and another at the back with a dining area and the accomodation reception between and to the left. The front bar has the counter across one corner and shares the servery with the rear bar. Four pulls at one end of the counter, Taylors Landlord, Rudgate’s Evil Elf Christmas beer, Theakston’s Best, and a sort of own badged Issac Poad 84 IPA, the other end of the counter has a quad T-bar. The Landlord was getting close to the turn but the Poad was much more drinkable although not really to my taste. The food is very good though.

The interior is much as expected in a proper Yorkshire village pub, exposed stone fire place, old flag floor, it also has a range of “Mouseman” and other interesting furniture, the Mouseman worked not far away in a nearby village. Decor is largely brass driven with horse brasses and other brassware, old photos, and pictures of the pub cat. The rear bar is more a cosy taproom, tongue and & groove walls with a similar beer selection, one cask being replaced by a Hambleton beer. Glamour photo decor in the gents including a Marilyn Monroe tribute corridor.
