Requested be closed with reason - Other: I saw furniture being removed tesyerday, and today shutters have been put up. Doesn't look good.

This is (was) the pub nearest to where I live. I only went in it half a dozen times in more than 20 years of living in Sheffield. After intermittent closures and reopenings over about a decade it finally closed three years ago and was demolished last week.

After a delay in the refurbishment, this pub reopened today having being closed for about six weeks. I called in for what is probably the first time in over five years, although it is the nearest pub to my house. The Star & Garter is a traditional street corner local, once part of a now demolished community of old back-to-back terraces, replaced by 1960s flats and more recent small town houses. Its location now almost compels it to market itself towards the student population, being literally in the shadow of the University's gigantic tower block.
The recent refurbishment is nothing special, just smart replacements of what had become shabby during the tenure of previous landlords. When I called in it was fairly quiet, as in there were only about 20 people present, but not at all quiet, as in there was a horrendously noisy sound system playing disco-type music. I presume this was a one-off, for the reopening, as the pool table which traditionally occupies part of the room to the left of the bar had been pushed against the wall. Or maybe it's a Friday night thing.
On the bar there are now four hand pumps (the landlord has Cask Marque accreditation). These were serving Star & Garter Ale (which upon enquiry and subsequent tasting turned out to be Tetleys Bitter), Kelham Island Easy Rider, Wells Bombardier and Fullers London Pride. The Tetleys was not like they used to brew in Leeds, lacking that distinctive bitter tang, but it was well kept and excellently served. At only £2.15 a pint, perhaps my opinion was swayed slightly, but if that's the regular price, I might well be back for more. Though it would have to be a quieter night than this.
The music was very loud indeed, causing rumblings in my belly and an incipient headache. When a punter stepped up to deliver the first attempt at karaoke at almost literally ear-splitting volume, I quickly sank my pint and made a dash for the exit.
