Will Larter left this review about Crosspool Tavern
After the quite positive experience of Crosspool's Ember Inn, the Sportsman, it was pretty disappointing to then encounter this Crown Carvery, the opposite end of the chain pub spectrum. Our visit coincided with the dinner staff knocking off for the evening, and I couldn't help my jaw dropping at the sight of one of them with a veritable mountain of mashed potato and gravy on his plate, tucking in with apparent relish.
The bar counter is awkwardly located near a pillar and it's difficult to find somewhere comfortable to lean or stand, especially if you want to avoid the aforementioned potato mountain spoiling the view. My other "must avoid" was a Christmas tree (this was the 11th of September!), so what with one thing and another - did I mention the loud music? - this was a fairly depressing experience. There were three hand pumps with two beers on, Marstons EPA and Wells Bombardier. I drank my Bombardier and skedaddled in search of a more uplifting experience.
