This is a food-oriented pub on the remote outskirts of Sheffield, with a handy bus stop right outside the door. It's unfortunate that the smell of food is the first impression on entering, because once the initial stale blast of fried fish and cooking fat subsides this is quite a smart and almost pleasant place for a drink. The furniture and surroundings are good quality, and the beer is well kept and served, and not excessively expensive. Pity about that first impression.

In this, the seventh and last pub of a recent Greenhill-Bradway-Totley crawl, I finally got the Black Sheep Bitter I'd been looking forward to all day. Another favourite, Peak Ales Bakewell Best was also available, but I stuck to my first choice. The third beer on the bar was Abbeydale Moonshine, with a fourth hand pump not in service. As with the Fleur de Lys across the road, for me there's little temptation to come back here: it's just too far out of town for the limited attractions to exert a strong enough pull.

The Cross Scythes is a decent looking pub that is set back from the main road and is above the bus terminus in front of it.
Once inside the bar faces you and the pub has been opened out but has different drinking areas, there were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Black Sheep bitter and this was a decent drink the other beers were Taylor Landlord and London Pride.
I thought this was quite a nice and comfortable pub to have a few drinks in.
