Located down a quiet backstreet, but easily reached from the main road through Crookes, the Cobden View is a compact little community pub. You enter into a small, carpeted lounge bar with limited banquette seating and a short servery area. On the other side of the pub, there is a second lounge area with some nice bench and low stool seating, a small fireplace and a large, well filled trophy cabinet, possibly including trophies for the pub’s hockey team who descended on the pub en-masse not long after I’d settled down with my pint. At the rear there is a wooden floored public bar with a pool table and a couple of TV screens showing live football with commentary. The pool table means there is limited seating in this room, but it’s worth popping round to check the additional hand pumps on the bar and perhaps to admire the collection of caps that are hung over the servery. There is a garden to the rear, but I forgot to take a look before leaving.
The four beers available on my visit were Greene King IPA, Wytchwood Hobgoblin, Bradfield Farmers Stout and Deuchars IPA. The Stout was a really nice drink and went down very well after the long walk I took to reach the pub. The staff seemed very friendly and there was a real community feel to the place.
I was made to feel very welcome in this pub and thought it was a good example of how a back street local should be run. Whilst the beer choice is not the most adventurous, it is at least kept well and I’d be happy to pop in again should I find myself back in the area.

Pleasant back-street local down the hill from the main street in Crookes. There are two connected bars, one in the front room on the left on entering, the other in the back room where there are large screen TVs showing football. On the right, two rooms have been knocked into one and there are some interesting photos and paintings of scenes in and around Sheffield.

There are six hand pumps, with the likes of Deuchars IPA, Wychwood Hobgoblin, local Bradfield Farmers Blonde and Stout, plus guests. Definitely not to be missed if you're in this part of town.
