A handsome looking pub on approach and the interior has kept its traditional feel. There were three ales to choose from; Black Sheep, Leeds Pale and Tetley. I haven't tried a Tetley for a while and have to say it was in very good nick served here.

An interesting place, mainly due to the interior décor which consists of a number of grandiose dark wood reclaimed bar fittings, nice stained glass and some interesting prints. Six ales were available; my Acorn Yorkshire Pride was OK, the Copper Dragon Best was good. The barman was helpful and chatty. The interior, as noted elsewhere, is decorated in a late Victorian style and the ornate bar back with built-in clock is certainly an eye-catcher, as is the blown up black and white picture of the impressive city hall. We took our seat in the small rear drinking area, on a rather worn leather banquette. Piped trendy muzak (which rather spoiled the ambience) plus a muted TV. The gents have a very impressive (presumably original) set of gigantic porcelain urinals. Worth a visit.

This place seems to have changed hands, to judge by the difference between the reviews below and my recent experience here. There are six hand pumps on the go, half with Copper Dragon beers from Skipton, the others being Tetleys Bitter from Wolverhampton, Barnsley Summer Pale and Leeds Best. I had Copper Dragon Best, which I enjoyed, and a taster of the Barnsley seasonal beer, which although not to my taste was in good condition. The barman was very friendly, especially after I told him about Pubs Galore! It was very quiet when I was here on a Sunday afternoon, but I imagine it must get pretty busy if they can keep six real ales on. I wouldn't mind coming here again.
