From outside the Tudor-era timber framed exterior looks like it holds a quaint olde worlde tavern. Sadly fails to really follow-through inside as it has been fairly modernised - some of the beams have been exposed and sanded, blue and cream shades with a nice herringbone parquet floor. Opens prior to noon though at 11.45am I was the only customer, the place was cold and the monosyllabic barman wasn't exactly overjoyed to see me. After a silent 5 minutes he then put on some atrocious music of the type you'd hear in a McDonald's drive-thru at midnight, presumably in an effort to get rid of me, which succeeded. Three pumps at the bar with just Purity Mad Goose on, a bit stale but drinkable (NBSS 2).

Tudor black and white building in the main high street. Grade II Listed, C16th Century. Inside - although we didnt spend too long - was modern and quite unspectacular in comparison to the exterior. We chose to sit in a small, rather scruffy rear patio area. All tired wooden pews and a floor littered with dog ends. The sun was shining and the low ceilings inside felt a little oppresive.

A single real ale on - Ubu Purity - and I shoud have trusted my instincts. It was served and was the colour of canal water. Took it straight back without tasting and was told - as though this was an excuse - that the barrell had just gone and was being changed. Surely, with so few customers they could have found me to offer to swap it before making me go through the rigmarole. I went for keg lager - Birra Moretti. Once the trust has gone, there is no going back.

Food was decent - although there was a longish wait and one of our party didnt get theirs straight off, as they had dropped it on delivery. Still, they did provide an extra bowl of chips to keep him going till his meal came.

A very average experience, getting a very average score.

As mentioned below this pub has an open plan room at the front with a rear room set out for diners. There was a crowd of people in watching a rugby game so seating was limited.
The three hand pumps on the bar had one unused, Purity Gold and Hogs Back TEA. I went for the Purity Gold which at £3.50 struck me as a rip-off. I took it to the dining room which was almost empty and was told I couldn't stay there unless I ordered food. I took my pint outside to the decked terrace which also had a TV but it was turned off.
This pub seems to just cater for people who want to watch sport on the television or the Trip Advisor Brigade so I wouldn't return. It gains a point because the expensive beer was in immaculate condition.
