A very pleasant local, a small roadside pub on the outskirts of town. It has been recently renovated and refurbished and now has a bright, clean feel to it. There is a small car park at the side, while the front is dominated by a wooden pergola on a raised terrace for smokers. Inside, the three original front rooms have been opened to form a single long bar, although being on a hill, the successive floors are at progressively higher levels. The narrower area at the lower end is filled with a pool table, the single counter is in the centre, set back into a rear room, while the upper bar is carpeted and comfortable. There are 3 large TV screens, which were showing live football. There is a dartboard at the 'saloon' end, though there appeared to be more dart holes in the adjacent wallpaper than in the board, while the ocky was so high and solid it presented a trip hazard. There was also a folded up table tennis table in the hall by the toilets. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming, the pub dog was benign and the locals were friendly. Two ales on, Otter and Speckled Hen, not spectacular but very drinkable. A decent enough pub, worth stopping for a beer.
