A lively village local with an old codgers’ band playing in the back room. There are lots of interconnected rambling rooms, a curved bar counter and the place felt fairly well lived-in with character (and damp). Noted a switched off TV, dart board and a selection of magazines to peruse. A beer festival was on, but as time was pressing I dispensed with that and went straight for what I took to be the regular ale offerings (clips mounted above the bar notwithstanding), the stalwarts of Courage Best and Marstons Pedigree. A half of the latter was in good shape, even if the brew itself isn’t one I particularly enjoy and along with a half of lemonade came in at a wallet-friendly £2.90. An honest locals pub that is worth a look. 6.5
