On a friend's recommendation we stopped for lunch at The Boot on our way down to the West Country and were delighted by what we found. A traditional English pub serving well kept beer and serving very good classic British food. I can definately recommend the devilled chicken livers and my wife's smoked trout and crayfish tail "sandwich" has to be seen to be believed. Although the children's menu is simple, we were also offered several smaller portions off the main blackboard and both our kids were very happy with their macaroni cheese and sausages (which are made in hte village!). Service was very friendly and efficient. Although I was driving, the small beer I had (Strong In The Arm) was very well kept and there was a god selection of house wines by the glass that my wife enjoyed. I can thoroughly recommend that anyone travelling to and from the West Country should try and stop here for lunch - we have booked in for dinner on our return trip as the owners were very helpful in giving details of several B&Bs locally, some within walking distance.

Wonderful old village pub just off the A303 near Warminster. Their top priority is food and the pub tries, but doesn't quite manage, to be a restaurant. There is a strong local following and a warm welcome is always on offer for visitors, even those who just want a drink. There were 3 ales on, all Wadworths, although there is usually a guest ale on too. The beer is very well kept, served at the right temperature and most enjoyable; the Horizon was particularly good this time. Thoroughly recommended for lunch or an evening meal and an excellent place to stop when travelling down to the West Country.
