Well described by Soupie, below, and still selling superb beers in excellent condition. The latest selection was Stonehenge's Pigswill, Cottage Brewing's Hunny Bunny, Wadworth's 6X and Doombar. In addition there were 4 ciders and over 40 whiskies to provide variety. Theme nights include fish and chips on Tuesdays, steaks on Wednesdays and Sunday quiz nights, plus occasional live music. Staff were amiable, locals well behaved and dogs good company. Parking can be problematic, but it's worth trying as this pub has excellent beer quality and a pleasant atmosphere, a good place to spend time. It doesn't have a 2016GBG entry, but I'm sure that's just a consequence of CAMRA's silly quota system as the pub's beer quality certainly merits it.

A large, thatched, detached country pub, with patio front and back. In GBG 2010.

The interior had three areas so to speak, in an L shape around the bar, with a games area en route to the rear patio, which contained darts and bar billiards. The decor is mainly white, with some red and exposed brick, with ceiling beams. There was a central small tiled fireplace, with fire and lots of ship and naval pictures and ephemera, including a massive model of the Cutty Sark - as well as a collection of beer mats highlighting the good ale choice. A few sofas gave a mix of traditional and modern to this place that should please everyone. The food was excellent and good value, the service was very friendly and there was a good friendly mix of people in - even the dog! The folky music was of a decent level.

Beer;tap stuff, with Staropromen. On handpull there were Davenports Irish Whiskey Ale, Wadsworth 6X, Church End Old Pal and a very good Keystone's Dark Porter

A superb place - more than worthy of the GBG status and a delight to visit on all fronts - GO!
