As described by others, below, this is an excellent addition to a Pewsey visit. The garden is a good place to sit, wooden benches and umbrellas, and interest added by the presence of the floats for the Pewsey Carnival which are kept here all year. Ales on were 6X, Butcombe Bitter and Machine Head Bitter, all in excellent condition. I'd like to have stayed longer, but a curry was calling. I'll certainly be back though.

A revisit - three on ales on and a far better experience this time from staff who clearly knew what they should be doing. Went through all three; Ramsbury Chestnut (very good nick). Box Steam Piston Broke (good) and Skinners Cornish Knocker (very good). Some cheese also came out for general consumption, a lovely touch. On this performance I can understand better the good reviews and am upping my score to be closer to theirs.

July 2016
A pretty thatched place. Rustic inside, close to basic. Higgledy-piggledy interior with a wood floor, slightly battered bar front, cold and underlying smells of damp (the fire really should have been on rather than the door being wide open). Darts, pool and table football in the elevated rear room (plenty of trophies atop the unlit fireplace indicated a decent level of sporting prowess amongst the locals). Notable for not serving hot food. Three eclectic ales; Tring, Ramsbury Gold and Box Steam Soul Train, The Tring spluttered out of the pipe (a seemingly recurring theme in rural east Wilts) and was cloudy. Took it back and got a replacement on the house (via a bit of flannel from a posh-voiced barmaid who didn’t really know much about the product). The replacement, Ramsbury Gold, was fair. Noted that all the beers were 4.5% or over which seems like a strange selection policy and probably explains the sub-optimal state of the two I was served. Also noted two boxed ciders (Orchard Pig and AN Other). I wanted to like this place and hope I caught it on a bad day – I’d be tempted to do it again in the winter as I suspect that’s when it really comes into its own? I see two effusive recent reviews below from seasoned PUGers who must have been there a day or 3 either side of me… Rated 6

I endorse the positive review ,it's a village boozer and a friendly place to drink. The condition of my Tring Pale +Four was tip top,a goods job as the other options were Box Steam Soul Train and 6X.The pub owns a large field to the rear which holds an annual scooter rally, when extra stillage is offered in the side lounge,we missed the event but were told it brings much life both to the pub and to Pewsey more generally. The landlady said she had never seen as many fox tails in one field before.Good pub.
