Historic pub in the centre of Devizes stocking a good range of beers and ciders. There is a small public bar at the front, with a similar sized room off to the right, containing a fireplace full of board and card games. Beyond the bar is a further small room. On my Friday evening, the pub was busy with standing room only at the bar and almost all tables taken. Getting served was difficult in itself.

Wadworth Henry's IPA is the regular beer. Guests were XT8 Porter, Wantsum 1381 & Black Prince, Moor Illumination & Portobello Central Line Red. Ciders were Weston's Old Rosie & Rosie's Pig Rhubarb & Tropical Ciders.

Nice pub, only let down by how busy it was and also by the state of the gents toilets. Since Quinno visited, they have obviously become far from "snazzy". In fact, the urinals were taped off and not in use, leaving just a single cubicle, which wasn't quite enough for a full house. Other than that, this is certainly one of the best pubs in town.

Instant winner, a traditional feel inside with some tasteful modern touches. Three distinct rooms over a couple of levels. The main bar is the star - wood beams, low ceilinged, wood panelling, bench seating and some painted alcohol cherubs on the beams. A cosy side room off right, and via a cut through is a lighter area. Snazzy outside bogs. Six pumps with four cask, just the one Waddies with guests from Animal, Plain and Ramsbury alongside three ciders. GBG'23 listed and my Ramsbury Farmer's was served-up by a gregarious barmaid and was in good form (NBSS 3.5) with a choice of straight or handled glass. Tidy place and a must-do in town for my money. 8.5

Originally a coaching inn, now one of the better ale pubs in Devizes as well as a friendly, comfortable local.  Slightly unimposing from the outside, I’ve walked past this pub several times, but I’m glad I came in this time.  There are plenty of architectural features on view including timbers, brick hearths and timber floors.  There are 3 main bar areas plus a few nooks and crannies, all very cosy.  There is a woodburner in one of the brick chimneys which provided a much-appreciated warm glow when we came in from the cold.  The staff were very helpful and pleasant, while the local cadre represented a wide cross-section of the Devizes population, human and canine.  Ales on were Animal Hop Kitty, Henry’s IPA, Penine Natural Gold, 8XT and COB Ordinary Bitter, plus draught ciders from Weston and Thatcher.  The beers we had were in superb condition, well worth time spent enjoying them, and not that expensive for the area.  Sadly there was no hot food on as the kitchen was closed, but there was a selection of cold snacks available.  Well worth a visit.
