A proper old village local in a delightful building with the date 1735 above the door (see photo - evidently it was originally a private house, but the name on the plaque has been chipped off, leaving just the designation "Esquire" still legible). It was busy at the time of my visit soon after 1pm on a weekday, but it was good to see that it was drinkers rather than diners keeping the pub ticking over. The original interior has been opened out somewhat, but with restraint and taste, and the stone fireplace with copper hood was very nice. There are six hand pumps split between the two bars, with Landlord "also on sale" advertised alongside the three beers pictured in my photo of the three in the room on the left. I went for the Goose Eye Bitter, which was perhaps a little tired but still drinkable.

Built in 1735, This traditional style pub still retains a lot of character. The pub has three main areas, bar area situated on the left of entrance, with an open coal fire, with a large copper fireplace canopy. There was also lots of horse brasses around the walls and a beamed ceiling and flagstone floor. The lounge area was situated along the front middle section, which was a mix of floorboards and carpeted. The majority of the timberwork was painted in a mushroom colour and the largest section of the oak bar, with an original large oak beam over the bar could be seen here. This area also had another stone fireplace which serves two rooms, the lounge and dining room. The décor was finished to a very high standard in this pub and all the seating areas where very comfortable.
Five pumps serving four ales from Naylor's and one guest, which was Saltaire Blonde. We went for the Naylor's Blonde and Naylor's Gold.
