This is a great looking pub, both inside and outside. A curved bar, lots of wood, good looking furniture, two small snugs at either end of the bar and 10 handpumps, what's not to like? Lots of interesting pictures and drawings on the wall including Huddersfield Town memorabilia. There was quiet background music playing during our visit, mainly Tamla & Northern Soul. My pint of True North Blonde was in very good nick. I'll definitely be calling in here again.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Sportsman

Corner pub with the curved bar counter opposite the front door and additional small rooms at either extremity (the Tap Room with local history photographs and an architect's drawing showing how the original layout was remodelled 85 years ago, the Smoke Room with a feature artwork above the mantelpiece). Plain but attractive 1930s furniture. Ten handpumps, offering eight - mostly local - real ales (including True North Blonde, £1.45 half) and two Pure North ciders (and another one on the keg taps). Excellent place.

Yes a cracking pub which is well worth the short walk north from the railway station. Very comfortable interior well described below by previous reviewers and the main semi circular art deco bar is something you don’t see every day. For our visit Mallisons Kiwi Classic, Dark Star Green Hopped IPA and Winter Solstice, True North Blonde, Taylors Boltmaker, Anarchy Blonde Star and Sublime Chaos and Neepsend Brew Co. Nimue were available on the 8 Ale handpumps and the Blonde Star at £3.00 a pint went down very well. Will concur with others , this one should be included in any crawl around Huddersfield’s best drinking establishments.
