Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Slubbers Arms

Old-fashioned (in a good way) local, housed in a wedge-shaped building north of the town centre. Very traditional, unfussy furniture and decor around the compact 'V'-shaped bar, with most of the regulars sitting on bar stools (but not in an exclusive way). The usual Timothy Taylor Landlord and Boltmaker were available from a total of eight handpumps, along with XT2 (£3.40), Wainwright, Saltaire South Island pale and Thwaites Nutty Black as guests. Well worth the walk northwards from the town centre.

This is a nice, welcoming community local, situated a couple of minutes walk north of the Huddersfield ring road. The building is squeezed between Halifax Old Road and Ash Street, resulting in an odd, elongated wedge shaped pub which tapers to a point where the two roads meet. Entering through the raised entrance at this junction, you firstly have to pass through a small triangular room with functional and efficiently arranged seating, as well as a few tables with what appeared to be various ticket stubs inlaid in their surface. Having passed through this room you then reach the Tudor Bar - a V shaped room with a V shaped bar counter. There is banquette and low stool seating throughout the room, which opens out slightly once you pass the end of the servery. An upright piano is positioned against one wall and a real fire was lit in the fireplace opposite. A decent beer bottle collection lines a high shelf that runs around the room and pump clips are displayed around the window bays. There is also an old toilet cistern hung high above the doorway which has the words “In memory of the Slubbers' loos 1952-1992” written on it. This door leads to the second bar which has a very short stretch of bar counter with just a couple of hand pulls. The room has a flagstone floor and there is some sort of football scarf collection on display as well. Extra seating is provided in an area called the store room and there seemed to be access to an outdoor patio as well, although I didn't have time to properly explore this end of the pub, which was very crowded prior to a match at the nearby Galpharm Stadium (10 - 15 minute walk).
The main bar had Timothy Taylor Landlord and Best Bitter, Titanic Mild (£2.50), Moorhouse APA Special and Phoenix Last Leaf as well as Moonshine Cider and Two Trees Perry (with the two Taylor beers also available at the smaller bar in the next room). I tried the Mild which was in excellent condition and went down a treat. The staff were very friendly and dealt with the big crowds extremely efficiently.
There might not seem like much incentive to head in this direction, with most of the town's best pubs in the centre or to the South of the ring road, but this place, with its friendly staff, comfortable surroundings and top-notch beer, should make you think twice about writing off this part of town.
