Will Larter left this review about The Nook

After my excursion out to Upperthong for the Farmers Arms my return to the town centre was planned to coincide with the afternoon opening of the Nook - 3pm on Mon/Tue/Wed - which a gathering crowd in front of this pub's doors informed me had not happened on schedule. I took myself off to an alternative pub and returned here at 3.30 when all was well. Hidden down nooks and crannies, as you might expect, this is not the easiest pub for the uninitiated to find. It's an old fashioned ale house with eight real ales and two ciders on the bar. Three of the beers were from Wensleydale Brewery at the time of my visit, with five beers from Nook Brewery lining one side of the bar. I went for Regal 4.5% and Baby Blonde 3.8%, and got criticised by the licensee for drinking them in the wrong order. (I should have criticised him for not arriving at the pub before opening time, but managed to keep my trap shut.) Both beers were NBSS 3.5 and drinking along the bar would be a good reason for coming to Holmfirth on a Thursday or Friday, always assuming the opening time at noon is better observed than Wednesday's was. I might give it a try.

Sorry can only give it 2 must have caught it on a bad Sunday dinner time. I know its got a lot of good reviews but you have got to tell the truth when you visit pubs or this site is not worth being on.
The lad behind the bar was in the kitchen come back room whatever it is talking waited for a while customers called him he eventually came. Got a very good pint of Nook Dark Oat Stout which he almost threw it at me then ran back into the Kitchen to carry on chatting to who ever was in there. was there 20 minutes he had to be called 5 times to serve and 4 people walked out. But will call back for old times sake

Home of the Nook Brewery, hidden away down a narrow alley off the main drag near “Sid's Cafe” it's a tatty, multi room pub on varying floor levels. As you enter there is a games room to your left with dart board and a pool table, to the right a small snug with a counter face and five pulls. Ahead up a slight slope that will catch out the unwary or the drunk is a bar that opens out to the left up a step or two protected by industrial checkerplate. The counter face here has another five pulls one of which is devoted to cider, the others being a wide range of ales including of course the fine beers from the Nook itself. Limited décor of but the specially drawn cartoons are interesting and there's a garden at the back. Naturally enough it's listed in the 2012 Good Beer Guide and deservedly so.
