Will Larter left this review about Farmers Boy Inn
This is a pleasant village local, sitting unprepossessingly in a row of house up the hill from the centre. I had planned to be here soon after opening time, but all was quiet as I approached. It turned out that the bank holiday Monday just gone had prompted a closure on the Tuesday and a later start on the Wednesday, so I retired to consider Plan B. Returning at nearly 6pm I found a handful of people sitting at the tables in front, and a decent crowd inside, including a large man with a Carling glass who was blocking access to the three hand pumps in the corner.
I managed to negotiate enough room to photograph the pump clips, and went for a half from Small World and a half of White Rat. The former had a strange off flavour which was partly masked by the very prominent hopps (or was it the other way round?), but the Ossett beer was fine (NBSS 3.5). I took the undrunk part of the other beer back as I was leaving, just to bring the fault to their attention, as I didn't have time to get a replacement, or indeed to convince the lass who served me that it was actually faulty.
It's quite a schlep uphill from the station, and with 60 minutes between trains it's pushing it a bit to spend 15 minutes here and the same in the Black Bull in the centre, but that's what Plan B turned out to be.
