nicely refurbished traditional pub with piano, that was ticking along nicely with most sat on outside benches. Very much a proper pub which was much needed at this point in the evening. A rather dull cask selection unfortunately and it wasn’t a day for Old Peculier so a quick half of Boltmaker to finish the day.

Backstreet pub that looks to have had an extremely recent and expensive makeover which looks like money well-spent. Inside has a traditional feel with a modern sheen, a kind of dog-legged layout with a quasi-separate doored room at the back. Farrow & Ball style colours, green olive and mint blue maybe, with black wood trim. Grandmother clock spotted, a rarity. Six cask on from breweries you've heard of; special excitement thanks to Titanic Plum Porter (NBSS 4) and Theakston OP (NBSS 4) with a bonus half of Theakston Lightfoot (3.5). The cask was flying out and there was a great atmosphere, slightly spoilt by the middle aged Jolyons who turned up with a dog that draped itself over the main pedestrian route and the wally-in-chief then decided to get his guitar out. Aside from that, a really good pub. Peculair omission from GBG'22. 8.5

An Admiral Taverns pub, that is very well run. The staff on our visit were very friendly and chatty, and their beers were very well kept. This is a traditional style pub, which hosts a grandmother clock and upright piano in the main bar area. The smaller lounge on the left of entrance was very homely and comfortable, with a woodburning stove at one end, which was lit. Six pumps, with three regular and three guest ales, which were Theakstons Old Perculier, TT Landlord, Robby's Dark Raven, Jennings Cumberland, Adnams Ghostship and Arkells Spiced Pumpkin ale. I went for the Adnams Ghostship, which was as good as drinking it in Suffolk.
