Reached via a side door in the archway or a second door off the small yard the archway leads to, it is an open plan room although there are several distinct areas. At the front is a small space at street level with a few chairs and tables plus a big screen. A few steps lead up to the main bar with a dining area just off it, this still sports its “No Smoking Area” sign. The bar counter stretches along one wall with a nice stained glass bay window affair with seating opposite, at the far end are a few more tables and chairs plus the toilets. There's a flag floor and the usual crop of old photos for decoration. Four handpumps dotted about on the counter interspersed with the usual kegs, three of the pulls sported reversed pump clips (Bombardier, Tetleys and Old Speckled Hen) and there were a number of disappointed looks when told the only bitter was John Smiths smooth. A mix of lunchtime customers with the middle aged predominating and the service was first class.
