Just found out today that the Staffordshire Volunteer has been sold by Punch Taverns. It was announced that the pub will be closing for good and be redeveloped into a supermarket. Very sad.

A detached, cream painted brick pub tah looks a little tired from the outside.
The interior looks a little tired as well. There is a function room, which i didn't see, and a bar room. The bar is in red and white, with a tiled floor, though it is missing a few. There is a pool table and a large pull-down screen TV, which had Sky and ESPN for the footy. There are no real pictures and the seats are a little ripped. There was no music. Add that the bogs have seen better days and it seems to paint a black picture - but not so, ironically. The service was friendly and the locals (mainly mature, like myself!) who clearly all knew each other, were having such a laugh that the it was difficult to hear the footy. This made for a really nice half hour as i watched the results come in.
Beer; tap stuff, no real ale - had a bitter shandy.
The lack of real ale and the fact it is out of the way means i wouldn,t drop by again, but really enjoyed seeing a real community pub - even if it could do with a scrub-up
