Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Goodwin's

Substantial building on the Old Hill, set back from the road in its own grounds. Unremarkable bar area in front of and beside the counter, but part of the restaurant beyond has some good views over the valley below. No real ale, unfortunately, so the choice was narrowed down to BrewDog Punk IPA or East Coast IPA (£3.99, and which made sense when I saw from my receipt that this is a Greene King establishment).

Soup Dragon left this review about The Rock Hotel

I thought it time for a re-review as a part of my Wolverhampton tour. This is a Fayre and Square chain pub, eatery and Wacky Warehouse family place. It is a mish-mash as a building, and again, if my mapwork is correct, it seems to have been remodelled c1890-1900. It has a strange out-of-place Tudor entrance, but a nice patio area overlooking Wolverhampton. The interior is an open room in green, cream and patterned wallpapers, with arty art and pictures. Several kid's grabbing machines and tat toy dispensers are around, as well as a tattoo machine, so the kids can mimic their favourite pop or sport stars at their leisure. There was no TV that i saw and the music was general and at a decent level. I didn't try the food. The service was friendly (the high point) and the place populated by families mainly, eating and moving buggies from one place to another. Beer; usual tap stuff with a handpull with Black Sheep Bitter (not on) and one with a pretty dire Bombardier. This place just gets worse. My view - if you are ever caught between 'The' Rock and a hard place, go the hard place.

Ale Monster left this review about The Rock Hotel

This is one of Punch Taverns family restaurant pubs with a Wacky Warehouse for the kids above the pub. The layout is open plan with fairly modern décor and a few crap vases and statues, through the main entrance is a large dining lounge with a long bar counter against the left hand wall, on the left of the bar is a large flat screen TV mainly used for sporting events. Opposite the main entrance and at the back of the pub are double doors which lead out to a decked area and beer garden, with good views looking east over Wolverhampton City centre. I believe it’s the highest point in the City and Molineux Stadium, the home of Wolves FC can be seen very clearly.

No regular ale but they now have two changing guest ales on hand pull which on my visit were Black Sheep Best Bitter and Theakston Best Bitter. I must say that they were both in good condition on the day but I don’t visit often enough to comment on their consistency.

As can be seen in the photos the main part of the building is very old, it was a stop off point for coaches heading towards Holyhead when the steep Old Hill road was the only direct route before the Tettenhall Road/Wergs Road was cut through the stone mound which is locally known as “The Rock”. Despite this point of interest the interior is unfortunately very bland and uninspiring with an emphasis on catering for families looking for somewhere to eat. Not a pub that you would go out of your way to visit but the meals are cheap and the views are interesting.
