Substantial Greene King 1980s? pub / restaurant on the edge of the then-new Perton housing development, but located in a woodland strip that gives it an almost country feel. Standard semi-modern furniture and decoration in the partly subdivided main space, with a pool table, dartboard and patio seating area. IPA (£4.41 with 10% Camra discount and a packet of peanuts), Abbot and Black Sheep as a guest from three of the four handpumps.

Set amongst trees, this is a sprawling, irregular shaped estate pub/eatery built in the 1980s and now operated by the John Barras chain. The pub is in a mix of undressed brick and coffee coloured wood panel and has a patio area. Typical functional building of the day. The interior is also irregular, with an L-shaped area given over to dining and a side area where there are a couple of pool tables and a dart board. The decor is the old red and mustard combination, but now also has red patterned wallpaper on the odd wall for that up-to-date feel. It has a white ceiling and mixed flooring. A few old local photos (dining) and sports (bar area) are squeezed onto the patches of wall not occupied by the plethora of TVs showing the footy (including a big screen). The service was fine and the clientele mixed - with many of the young 'uns on the pool tables. The music was general and at a decent level. I didn't eat so can't comment on that. Beer; usual tap stuff with Black Sheep Bitter and a decent enough Thwaites Wainwright on handpull. A generic interior, but seemed like a decent little community place.

Chris Hawthorne left this review about The Pear & Partridge

Visited the Pear for a quick and cheap Sunday lunch, the cheap bit was okay with Sunday lunch costing just £3.99 or two for £7.00 the quick bit was not happening!! They were doing a fair trade, not over busy and certainly less busy than a lot of other Sunday lunch venues we have visited, however the time it took for our meal to arrive was disgusting, one hour, yes one hour!! By the time it arrived I had quite frankly lost the will to live and was ready to walk out, if we had not already paid I would have done so and I told the poor chap who brought our meal to us that this was the case and asked him to pass my comments to the "chef". I use the term "chef" lightly as I should say the majority of this meal would have been frozen, the beef was of the processed variety and the roast potatoes were definately frozen so how the meals were taking so long to arrive is a complete mystery when it is obvious they just had to be taken out of the freezer and put into the ovens! This is not the first time we have had to wait for some time for a meal in this pub, but the previous visits have been around 40 to 45 minutes which in my opinion is still too long but was not as bad as waiting for an hour. I said I would not visit again for a meal unless someone efficient who can do the job is employed in the kitchens.
