This is a 1920/30s detached M&B Sizzling chain pub and eatery with a patio area and a beer garden. It is in a mock-Tudor look, with the lower half in brick and the upper in white and black beam. The interior is open plan but split between a bar (at the back) and dining areas. The foody bit is in yellow patterned wallpaper and has the usual tables and chairs, as well as a dart board at a rather strange angle! The bar is in brown, yellow, wood panel, with a white ceiling and wood floor and has a nice little fireplace. The food scraps did make the place look a little untidy. Lots of old photos of the area and the pub are on the walls, making for interesting viewing. There were several TVs, one with horse racing on and there was no music. The service was OK and there were a good mix in, a number being in the bar area, or outside, just drinking rather than eating. Beer; usual tap stuff with GK IPA and Pedigree on handpull. I had the keg Banks's MILD which was OK. All-in-all, a better example of a Sizzling pub than most. Happy i stopped by.

This is a large Mitchell’s and Butlers pub which was built as a community local around 1900, the interior is a U shaped open plan room with a long L shaped bar counter at its centre opposite the entrance. On the left of the room as you enter the main door is a public bar area with small round tables, three flat screen TV’s usually showing sport and two original cast iron fire places, There are double doors which lead out to a nice covered decked area and beer garden. On the right of the entrance is a lounge area with larger tables for dining and an impressive fire place surrounded by a large dark wood mantle piece. At the back and on the far right of the room is a separate snug area which has a cast iron fire place with old ceramic tiles, comfy leather chairs and an old map of Staffordshire on the wall. There are interesting old photos of the pub and Wolverhampton throughout the various areas.
Regular ale is Marston’s Pedigree with a single changing guest beer from one of the usual suspects such as Old Speckled Hen, or Bombardier. Standard has been decent enough on my visits.
This is a good local’s pub that serves very good food at a reasonable price, the interior has been modernised a little but thankfully some old character has been retained especially in the public bar which seems to be popular with regulars. I always consider popping in for a meal and a pint when I’m in the area.
