UPDATE: This pub has just been taken over by a new and experienced couple, Stu and Julie. I was made to feel very welcome by both. They have repainted both the exterior and interior in cream and olive green. The lounge has a white ceiling and the pictures have remained the same. The bar also has some wood panel, retains the two tv's, but has been cleared of the clutter around the dart board. It feels fresher. The beer has Pedigree on handpull at the moment and the usual tap stuff with a decent Highgate MILD. Good luck to them.

This is a detached pub, in two buildings, white rendered with black paintwork, with a beer patio at the front and a garden at the back.

The interior has two rooms. The bar has a white wall and wood panel decor, along with a nice tiled fireplace. There is a dart board, which appears to be cluttered up with stuff. A few vases have replaced the old bottles. There are two TVs, one in the dart section, the other above the fireplace, one of which was showing footy - the other not on. The L-shaped lounge has a little snug area to the right on entry and is a nice little room. It is in white walls and ceiling and has a couple of nice tiled fireplaces. There are some nice Victorian prints and mirrors on the walls - a DJ was setting-up some music turntables for a soul night to start sometime later. Sadly, in the several times i have been in recently, this room seems empty and everyone is in the bar - indeed, i have had to go round to get served - shame, it is a nice lounge. The background music was at a decent level and the service is generally fine. The clientele is always mixed, but the regulars head for the bar it seems.

Beer; usual tap stuff, with Highgate MILD and Special - the MILD is usually very good. The real ale choice seems to have diminshed somewhat - The two or three choices seem to have become just the ubiquitous Pedigree- i kept to the MILD.

A nice pub, but one now i visit on every other trip into Bloko.

This pub has been taken over so i have given it a few weeks before trying it again.

This is a detached pub, in two buildings, white rendered with black paintwork, with a beer patio at the front and a garden at the back. (The outdoor bar-football and pool table have now gone).

The interior has two rooms. The bar has a white wall and wood panel decor, with lots of old bottles, empty and full, looking tiredly out at the punters. There are two TVs, near next to each other, that had French football on when i visited. The background music was a bit on the loud side and too charty. The lounge has had a bit of a tidy-up, not that it was too bad. The seats have been re-covered and the room has a nice fire place, old prints and has a white and wood decor. Background music was the same as in the bar. Service was fine and the clientele mixed.

Beer; usual tap stuff, with Highgate MILD, which was decent as ever. There was not so good a choice of handpull beers as before; there being Davenports IPA, Pedigree and Tetley Cask Bitter.

The place looks a little better, the beer seems as good, though not such a good selection, the music is awful and didnt try the food. All in all, its still a place to visit in Blocko. Time will tell

December 2011: The karaoke was well underway by the time we arrived on Friday evening. Not really my cup of tea (or any other type of beverage) so we found a bolthole around the corner. The bar staff were friendly. The only handpull in use was for Marston's Pedigree but there was a Highgate Mild from keg so I had that and it was OK. Nobody was smoking in the pub but a strong smell of smoke lingered around the bar area, presumably from the yard area between the two halves of the pub. I've always had high hopes for this pub because it looks attractive from the outside but for one reason or another it's always fallen a little bit short for me. I still hope that the new gaffers can make this the best pub in Bloxwich.

December 2010: Second pub of my freezing December Monday night pub trail. Fairly quiet but then Monday’s often are in the pub trade so it would be a little unfair to comment on the lack of atmosphere. The cask ale offerings were Highgate Old Ale, Davenports Crackerjack and Marston’s Pedigree. There was also Highgate MILD on tap and Highgate Special Light Amber to go with the usual Stella, Carling, Guinness, Magners and Strongbow. Of the 10 ales I tasted throughout the evening (I didn’t drink 10 pints though) the Highgate Old Ale was the nicest, in my opinion.

We sat in the bar to watch a bit of the football with 3 or 4 regulars and an open fire on the go. I’ll go back, if only for the Highgate, and I hope the recently appointed new manager makes a success of it.

August 2010: I went in on a Friday night. One room had music playing and it seemed that there were quite a few people in there. The other room had half a dozen people in and the karaoke man was just setting up. By the time he'd sung a few warm up numbers the bar area had cleared. We sat around the corner in the small (but nicely formed) front room.

On handpull, Pedigree (had just gone), Tetley Bitter (my two mates thought it was off) and Davenport's Pheasant Plucker, which was a good pint of bitter. I couldn't help but think that this place could be great but doesn't fulfil its potential. It's a nice building, with a traditional pub feel, but needs something to draw in more punters - maybe stock something along the lines of the Black Country ales that are available at other pubs locally.

I thought this was quite a nice looking pub from the outside and once inside there were two rooms i went in the lounge which was the larger of the two, this was a nice comfortable room to have a drink in.
There were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Highgate Old Ale and this was a really nice drink the other beers were Highgate Dark mild and Highgate bitter.
I was quite happy having a drink in here.
