Housed in an impressive GII listed building (dig those doric columns!) is this very tidy and upmarket Spoons. A pub of one half and two quarters as we discovered over two visits and they feel like totally separate places with different atmospheres; what you think is front and back depend on the entrance you use and which one you get depends on said choice of entrance – essentially there’s the main bar, a conservatory area and a quieter lounge-style affair. Nice tidy décor, the odd bit of older JDW style but overall fairly modern, maybe it’s had a full refurb in the last few years. Of interest in the main bar are the jumbo copper coins hanging from the roof. My Damson Porter by Burton Bridge was a genuinely amazing pint, a rare-as-a-hen’s-tooth NBSS 5. A minor let-down was Sunday breakfast, with the kitchen making a pig's ear of the orders. Beer and atmosphere-wise I thought this performed better than some of the other more storied GBG pubs in Walsall.

A beaut of a JDW - particularly from the front, where doric columns gleam in immaculate white paint.

Inside, its anti tardis but does stretch across a higher room, a lower room and then around the corner a lovely looking "library" room.

Beers - including award winning Abbot - all under £3 and perfectly kept. Breakfast delivered before I'd knocked the top of it and unusually for a JDW, very efficient floor staff keeping everything immaculate within.

As good as 'spoons get.

Rather odd shaped spoons in a venerable building or two but possibly originally separate parts, a brick part at the back and a stuccoed portico on the side. The counter is on a raised level in a greenhouse affair added to the front of the brick building. There’s tall seating in front of it and lower tables and chairs on the ground level. Behind in the original building is an oblong room decorated as a library and furnished with more low tables and chairs. Usual spoons set up of five plus five hand pumps topped and tailed with keg founts. Toilets upstairs of course in the part with the fancier exterior, but not a trip to Narnia away. Large outdoor seating area at the front next to the greenhouse. Beer quality ok and it’s GBG 2023 listed.
