An in(famous) sunken Tudor man-o-war in a town about as far away from the coast as you can get seems an odd choice for a pub name, but this is a decent enough place. Now surrounded by suburban housing, it retains more of its original character as a village inn formed from a converted cottage. Seating / dining areas on three sides of the central servery. There is also some dark wood-panelling inside which helps reinforce the initial impression as you approach, and a front beer garden to help complete the picture. Mostly Punjabi menu, and with various handpumps on different parts of the counter I found choice of Vik's (Greene King) Bitter, Landlord and Robinson's Unicorn to go with my meal.

A detached, cream rendered pub and eatery, with leaded windows. It has a patio and beer garden area. This place was built on the site of Spring Cottage in 1982, taking the name of Henry VIII's flagship as it was raised at the same time, which was a winning competition entry!

The pub is an open plan area with wood partioning, with a central wood and exposed brick serving bar. The pub is very 1980s (a little twee) with white and fake beams and so forth, along with dashes of red and some exposed and white painted brick. At one end there is a large brick fireplace and a TV at the other, which was showing general stuff. The place is very foody, but i havent eaten here yet so can't comment though the menu looks fine. There is lots of Henry VIII, Mary Rose and other ephemera on the walls and brass ornaments dotted about. The service was fine and the clientele mixed, perhaps with a touch of emphasis on the younger.

Drink wise; usual tap stuff, but now with M&B MILD. There are a couple of handpulls, currently Adnams Lighthouse and Marco Pierre White's Governor Bitter. They were OK.

The pub is getting better on a personal front for beer choice. Yes, it is twee, but hey, beats the bistro pubco look for me.

Anthony Powis left this review about The Mary Rose

Having not been to this pub for a while, I decided to visit with nine friends for my birthday in December 2008, and found out that the previous manager of many years had retired and Punch Taverns had put it up for lease, not normally good news, but when we arrived we were all very pleasantly surprised, it had had a very tasteful and subtle makeover in keeping with the character of the pub, and when we sampled the food, we didn't find the normal 'pub grub' that it used to offer but fresh ingredients throughout with prices that were very acceptable. I will be definately sampling it more in the near future. Congratulations to the current landlord for getting it right.
